What We Leave Behind
These photographs form part of an ongoing series, in which
I visually document the traces of our lives that we leave
For good or bad, we often leave lasting impressions in the
environment. We erect great monuments and public buildings
to reassure ourselves of our importance during our brief
lifetimes, or we simply respond to the more prosaic need
to create places of shelter. Our propensity to litter and discard
the items we deem to be literally ‘throwaway’ is sadly evident
everywhere we look.
A great deal of human activity results in a physical footprint
or an environmental legacy being created. It is my intention
for this ongoing photographic project to record these human
imprints, as a means of understanding places and revealing
the identities of those who inhabit them.
